Blog Info
I’d like to take a moment and explain my inspiration for the blog’s name Your Volleys Suck. In case you hadn’t picked up on it, I’m not actually insulting your volleying skills, however poor they may be. This is, in fact, a reference to a certain life changing event that I experienced a few weeks ago.
The Stanford WTA event (Bank of the West Classic) did not televise any matches until Friday, FIVE DAYS after the tournament’s start. In my desperation to see some live tennis, I ventured so far as to watch a Sharapova match when coverage finally began. It was there that I finally saw what the rest of the world/sponsors/media/WTA PR machine see: a truly majestic creature. When she approached the net, every clumsy move, every slow stumble towards the net was pure poetry. How had I never seen it before? Could it be that I was just too close minded to truly appreciate her talent?
Tonight, I revisited that exact moment and I felt the heavens open and shower me in a beautiful glow. And then I made gifs. And then Bárbara from Fierce Tennis made gifs. And all was well.
Here, I bring to you the inspiration behind the name Your Volleys Suck. Thank you, Maria. I couldn’t have done it without you. I’m sorry for that time I laughed when you got diarrhea at Barnes and Noble. I’m sorry for everything.

life changing experience
I’m also sorry my gif is such crap. The ripping program ruined some of the quality and I wasn’t willing to download the 10+ minute video again. Even for such a magnificent moment.
Gifs from Fierce Tennis (I would like to point out that while these gifs are far better, I found the video!!! Which is obviously the important part, duh.)

thank god for slow motion cameras

thank god for instant replay
And if that wasn’t enough, here’s the youtube video complete with sound!! (I’ve cued it up, but if WordPress ruins the formatting, the time is 8:57.)
Masha (I can call her that right? I’m like an honorary fan!), you truly are full of grace. ♥
And that’s how I met your mother named this blog.
Of course, I’d also like to take a chance to state the “mission,” so to speak, of this blog. The purpose of YVS is hopefully not to inundate you with tennis news that you already know; there are a multitude of blogs that do that far better than this one. Instead, I want to bring you inside the extremely bizarre world of professional tennis not usually covered by the mainstream media (with their LIBERAL BIAS!!!!). Posts will more often reflect on the attire of the players than their performance — unless your name begins with E and ends with -Doublefaultieva. I eagerly aspire to emulate Jon Stewart, but probably fall closer to Glenn Beck…I’m hoping for Tina Fey comparisons, but I’m probably getting Kathy Griffin. Or Sarah Silverman…..Oh, God…Blog self-destruct.
